- Car parks & garages
- Light industrial building
- Exterior pavements
Advantages:
- Easy to apply
- Non-yellowing formula
- Good resistance to oils & greases
- Suitable for exterior exposure
- Available in clear
Surface Preparation:
The substrate must be sound, free from dust, surface water and surface contaminants such as oil, grease, fats, chemicals, rust, paints curing membranes, etc. All loose materials and surface laitance must be removed. For larger areas shot blasting, high-pressure water blasting or scabbling is recommended. On small areas needle gunning or bush hammering can be effective. The tensile strength of the substrate should be at least 1.5 MPa. Pre-wetting the substrate is not necessary except on very absorbent substrates and/or when exposure to intense sunlight is probable. There should be no visible or standing water. May be applied to green and moist cementitious substrates.
Consumption | 5-10 m² per Litre approx, for open or textured surfaces. 10-15m² per Litre for sealed or more closed surfaces. |
Coats | 2 to 3 normally. |
Layer Thickness | Recommended coating thickness is approximately 30-40 microns per coat. Avoid ponding. |
Curing Time | Tack free in 1-2 hours. Recoat time – 2 to 4 hours. |
Application | can be applied by brush or roller. |
Cleaning | Clean all tools with water immediately after use. Once cured, AlkaSeal can only be removed mechanically. |
Important Considerations
- Thinning of AlkaSeal is not recommended.
- Provide adequate ventilation.
- AlkaSeal is a combustible liquid.
Application Instructions
AlkaSeal can be applied by spray or roller. Application of the first and possibly the second coat should be carried out on falling temperature to avoid the possibility of bubbling from air escape from the substrate and to maximise penetration. Premature exposure to moisture from the substrate or atmosphere may result in whitening/clouding of the finished product. A trial area is recommended before proceeding. Apply evenly and avoid leaving any excess product on the surface. As AlkaSeal is a thin coating, all imperfections will be reflected through the coating.
