Steps to Achieve a Successful Seamless Flake System
- Prepare the substrate thoroughly by diamond grinding or acid etching — ensure the surface is free of dust, oil/grease, loose particles, paint, and moisture. If rising dampness is present, apply a moisture barrier primer first.
- Repair cracks and imperfections using two-pack epoxy fillers — use Sikadur 31 CFN for cracks, or the Epoxy Coving and Repair Kit for larger spalls. Allow minimum 6–8 hours to cure before grinding or coating.
- Apply epoxy primer and allow to cure — general curing time at 20°C is minimum 8 hours.
- Return within 24 hours to remove rubbish and imperfections — grind down high sections and patch low sections. If left beyond 30–36 hours, scratch with 80 grit sandpaper before recoating.
- Apply base coat and broadcast flake while wet — wear spike shoes and apply safety practices when walking over wet epoxy.
- Return the next day to vacuum loose flake and apply two clear top coats — curing time at 20°C is minimum 8 hours per coat. For floors subject to heavy chemical or fuel exposure, consider a two-pack clear top coat.
- Add anti-slip media to the topcoat for a higher slip rating — use a clear aluminium oxide to avoid visible colour in the clear coat.
- Floor is trafficable after minimum 24 hours. Allow minimum 5 days before parking cars, boats, trailers, or heavy objects.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the Partial Flake and Full Flake package?
The Partial Flake package uses 1 box of flake for a light, scattered flake look with more of the base colour showing through. The Full Flake package uses 6 boxes of flake for a full broadcast, 100% coverage look — the most popular choice for garages and showrooms. If you're unsure which suits your project, contact us and we'll help you decide.
Is this suitable for a DIY beginner?
Yes! The kit includes all the tools and materials you need. The step-by-step process above walks you through the entire installation. For floors over 50sqm, we recommend having a second person to help with the flake broadcast. Our expert tech support team is also available if you get stuck at any point.
How long does the whole process take?
A typical flake floor system takes 2–3 days from start to finish — one day for prep and primer, one day for the base coat and flake broadcast, and one day for the clear top coats. The floor is trafficable after 24 hours and ready for vehicles after 5 days.
Will this kit cover my entire floor?
This package covers up to 80sqm. A standard double garage is approximately 35–40sqm, so this kit is ideal for large garages, workshops, warehouses, or commercial spaces. Coverage may vary depending on the porosity of your concrete surface.
Can I choose my flake colour and size?
Yes! Flake chips are available in a range of colours and sizes. Please contact us before ordering to discuss your colour preferences and we'll make sure the right flake is included in your package.
Does the floor need to be sealed after the flake is applied?
Yes — sealing is a critical step. The UVSeal clear top coat locks in the flakes, protects the floor from UV, chemicals, and abrasion, and gives the floor its final finish. This kit includes the UVSeal top coat as part of the package.
Can I pick this up or does it need to be shipped?
Both options are available. Local pickup is available from our Silverwater showroom at 6 Giffard Street, Silverwater NSW 2128. We also ship Australia-wide with same-day dispatch on most orders.
What if I need help during installation?
Our expert tech support team is available via live chat on our website. We're real installers — not a call centre — so you'll get practical, hands-on advice specific to your project and conditions.

Colour accuracy disclaimer: We have taken care to display the most accurate visuals of our products. However, we are not responsible for the colour accuracy of the device you are viewing our swatches on. These variations arise due to different computer monitors and devices (make, model and technology, as well as resolution, contrast and brightness control settings) in much the same way a scan will differ from an original image and a colour photocopy. Furthermore, coatings can exhibit variation in perceived colour depending on gloss level and application method. If you require a very specific colour match, please make your selection via actual swatches and colour boards available at our showroom.
